DS LB Big Battle next Sunday!

For next sunday, december 2nd, I organized a Napoleonic Big Battle in our Club, using a simplified version of DS LB.
10 Generals will be involved (1 CinC and 4 Subordinate Generals per side) in a 3-tables-clash of 3 Corps per side (plus a reserve).
The CinC will play far from the gaming tables and ALL Generals will communicate only through written "letters", unless they move in contact with another.

A bit of role playing, unreliable maps and other events will influence the outcome of the game.
One Side will win, but also a single general (who could be on the loser's side).
If the whole thing works, it could be a nice (if time consuming) alternative to the one vs one usual play.

We should have pics and recaps after the event...

90.000 page views!

What to say? Thank you to all followers and occasional visitors. I know I should have posted more this year, but my everyday job took its toll.

Hope to do better in the near future.

A great SDS batrep from Sweden

http://northern-wargaming.blogspot.se/2012/10/aar-famined-french-napoleonic-skirmish.html

I'd like to share this batrep coming from Sweden. It is one of the scenarios of the SDS rulebook (great table guys!) made by Mattias.

Enjoy!

A Very Important Guest at "ALT, si gioca!"

Andrea Angiolino (author of Wings of War/Wings of Glory with Pier Giorgio Paglia)  playing with some young pilots during "ALT, si gioca!" last october 7th

During "ALT si gioca!" we had the pleasure of hosting a table of Wings of Glory - the WW1 Air combat game previously known as Wings of War. The pleasure was doubled by the presence of Andrea Angiolino, one of the game's authors, who came and demoed the game, bringing along also some new models in preview.

The "Charge" of the eleven thousand

A couple of pics from our Con "ALT, si gioca!" held in my hometown (Terni) last sunday and organized by our club. Above the display of my 11.000 napoleonic figures in 15mm. (5 hours to put them on the tables!!), and below a shot on the main hall in the afternoon. It was a great day.

Paperback SDS

https://www.createspace.com/3919931
A Trade paperback edition of SDS is now available on createspace. It
is in 6x9 format, the text has been slightly revised (no new rules,
just some formal stuff - if you have the old edition you are good to
go). However, this new edition is cheaper and ships from Createspace
(Amazon) so you might consider buying a gazillion copies for your
club

A sign of life

Slightly less than a month without a post.
Quite a shame.
My everyday job is assorbing all my resources, and I simply cannot sit down and think.
But I see some light at the end of the tunnel, and hope to be back posting soon.

Sorry Guys....

A pic after a lot of words

After so many posts without a picture, my blog seemed to me a bit... empty.
So I decided to post the above (quite blurred) picture, i.e. what's going on in my lab.
Do you recognize anything?
Yes, it's an "area" wargame (squares, for sure).
No, it's not Napoleonic.
Yes, bases are not flocked (yet :-).
And for those of you who have sharp eyes.... yes, there are 4 units used as proxies (I still have to base the originals).

After a long silence..

...here I am to announce what I'd like to do in the coming weeks.
I'm going to post some Design Notes, divided by topic, to give all of you a sort of "backstage" for different aspects of the game.
Why am I saying I'd like rather than I will? Because - as the long silence of the subject may suggest - my time is very limited at the moment as my everyday job is absorbing all the (limited) resources of my brain.....

Done!......

I reviewed the final English version of DS LB, and passed to Andrea the last (few) corrections.
Now it is just a question of putting all pieces together and the game should be released.
I WON'T say when this time :)

SDS in Colorado

An interesting link to Dan's blog, showing how to get a lot of people involved in multi-player SDS.
Dan is about to organize a campaign, and after that a Tournament.

Great job, Dan!

This evening...

...I'll make a final check on the English text, then I should give Andrea the green light for the release. A few more adjustments and we should be ready.

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

OK we're late...

The pagesetting of the English version is requiring more time than anticipated. Andrea has to shift all illustrations, as English is about 20% shorter than Italian. But we are almost there....
Please bear with us.
